AL-TABQA- People of al-Tabqa city are still discovering more tunnels dug underground by IS mercenaries during the occupation of the city. Most of the tunnels were dug into the buildings of public facilities taken by the mercenaries.
The number of displaced persons in the city of al-Tabqa rising to about 125,000, a number of displaced people who did not find a house to shelter, are residing in the public institutions’ buildings. However, the refugees were surprised by the fact that there were many tunnels running under these buildings .IS mercenaries were using it to move around the city. The displaced and al-Tabqa did not hide their concern about the possibility of mines or explosives within these tunnels’ networks.
“When I came to al-Tabqa, I was not surprised by the overcrowded schools, but what scared me was a large hole in the row that no immigrant family wanted to inhabit because it contained a tunnel to ISIS connected with other tunnels. “And in this context Ahmed Sheikh Ahmed ,a resident of Jamal Abdel Nasser school said that three of his brothers and he managed to fill the tunnel with stones, bricks and dirt.
In the same context, the displaced child Ahmed talked about the existence of another tunnel in the informatics school that his family closed.
While the tunnel in Afaq Institute previously reaches the road to the First Neighborhood, which people described as the most densely populated.
The teacher of the school Maysaloun that includes a tunnel is the largest among them as it includes more than one outlet inside the school.
It is worth mentioning that all these tunnels are located in an area of only 300 square meters, which raises questions about the number of tunnels dug and its unknown contents.
