Muhammad Nur al-Din: NATO is direct partner of what Turkey is doing in Afrin

ALI HASAN-MEDIA HANAN

QAMISHLO– The academic writer and researcher in Turkish affairs and director of the Strategic Studies center in Beirut, Dr. Mohammad Nur al-Din, said that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is directly concerned with the Turkish invasion of Afrin and therefore is a direct partner of Turkey’s action in Afrin, the representation of the Kurdish fighter body can not be loaded responsiblity only to the Turkish authorities directly because they are sponsors and protectors, which depend on mercenary groups that carry out their orders and have nothing to do with moderate or non-moderate opposition.

The comments were made by an academic writer and researcher on Turkish affairs and director of the Strategic Studies Center in Beirut, Dr. Mohammad, in an interview with Hawar news agency to assess the events and Turkish aggression on Afrin. He stressed that Erdogan’s comments are to raise the morale of public opinion and the Turkish army in light of the losses suffered by them and said that Turkey has become part of the problem in Syria and not part of the solution in Syria.

The text of the dialogue is as follows:

* With the attack on Afrin the third week. How do you assess the balance of power between the Turkish army and (SDF)? And what is the slow progress of the Turkish army?

The lack of progress of the Turkish army quickly in Afrin is due to more than one reason. The first is that the Kurdish fighters defending Afrin region do not want to give up this region and therefore they fight until the last quarter. The second reason is that the Kurdish fighters have more experience in fighting the gangs. Turkey has never experienced a guerrilla war and is therefore inexperienced in this field. It is afraid that it will advance quickly so as not to fall into ambushes and traps not prepared for it. Turkey is therefore trying to proceed cautiously, despite the passage of more than two weeks after the attack began.

But there could be political to make the Turkish army advance much slower than it could have been, and this may have something to do with the situation in Idlib and the relationship with Russia and its allies.

Is it possible to say that NATO is fighting in Afrin in view of the tanks and aircraft used in the attack? Is NATO a partner in killing civilians who lost their lives in the Turkish shelling of Afrin?

Certainly NATO is directly concerned with the Turkish invasion of Afrin and wherever Turkey may be involved. Turkey remains an essential part of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), despite occasional disagreements. NATO is therefore a direct partner in the Turks’ actions towards Afrin.

* Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared two days ago and said there was little left to reach Afrin. As a follower of the situation, what do you conclude from Erdogan’s remarks?

Erdogan is trying to raise the morale of public opinion and the Turkish army, and the Turkish media was covering the situation on the ground in a way that Turkish public opinion that Afrin will fall in two or three days. In fact, what is going on is an attempt to lift morale after the Turks received a strong military strike by destroying the tank and the fall of at least 7 soldiers killed in the ranks of the Turkish army.

* Turkey claims to target the fighters, but killed and injured hundreds of civilians and destroyed Turkish aircraft archaeological ruins. What is the purpose of bombing civilians? Is the ethnic cleansing of the Kurds in Afrin and why?

* Turkey claims to target the fighters, but hundreds of civilians were martyred and injured and Turkish aircraft destroyed archaeological ruins. What is the purpose of shelling civilians? Is the ethnic cleansing of the Kurds in Afrin and why?

In my opinion, what the Turkish army is doing in Afrin against the Kurds, the shelling and killing of civilians is no different from what it has been doing in some cities of southeastern Turkey (Bakur Kurdistan) during the last few years and the destruction of entire neighborhoods there, and this is my assessment that whether in southeast Turkey or Afrin is the result of hatred And the hatred inherent and rooted in the Turkish nationalists and headed by Erdogan, and this estimate is not surprising and not new to those who know the trend of hatred and hostility to everyone who is Kurdish, whether inside Turkey or Syria or Iraq or anywhere else.

* Recently spread a video showing elements attacking with Turkish occupation army on Afrin representing in the fighter’s body. Their leaders acknowledged this. What is the representation of the bodies shows? Can these militants be considered moderate opposition?

The representation of the body of the Kurdish fighter can only be claimed by the Turkish authorities. It is the sponsor and the protector, which is paid in front of it and depends on armed groups that have nothing to do with the moderate or non-moderate opposition. They are mercenaries who follow orders from the Turkish forces.

If there was not a great atmosphere of hatred among the Turks and these armed men, they would not dare to do this heinous act. The first and last official is the Turkish authorities. If Turkey wanted to absolve itself of this issue, it would have arrested those who carried out this act directly and brought it before the world public opinion to punish them.

Is it possible that the fall of the Russian plane would affect the situation in North Syria in general, including Afrin? And how?

The fall of the Russian plane is a surprise on the line of field situation, and responsibility can be shared between Turkey and the American United States. The use of such shoulder-launched missiles to shoot down a modern Sukhoi 25 is very dangerous. May not have much impact on Turkey but affects the Russian relations with the United States and will bear responsibility.

Even if there is a Turkish responsibility in this process, I think that Russia will not rush towards straining relations with Turkey because Russia sees Turkey at this stage at least as a dependent ally in more than one direction.

Is Turkey in a quagmire that can not emerge from it? What options are available to Turkey now?

In fact, Turkey from the moment of its entry into Syria through Euphrates Shield Operation in Jrapplus, was directly involved in the Syrian crisis war after it relied on its tools and agents in the various terrorist organizations from calling for support to all these factions now in Afrin

Syria has proved for 7 years that it is a quagmire for a large number of regional and international powers, and in light of Turkey’s disagreement with the United States and in the absence of complete confidence between it and the axis of Iran, Russia and Syria, I think is working on the contradictions between the conflicting parties, America on the one hand and Russia and its allies on the other to achieve some gains.

There is no doubt that Turkey has become part of this problem and is not part of the solution in Syria, and the solution is my appreciation that Turkey will allow the Syrians to do their internal affairs and refrain from interfering in the internal Syrian affairs and to resolve their problems at home and take away the hatred of the Kurdish people wherever they may be. Solutions are closer to fantasies than to the possibility of being a reality in the foreseeable future and perhaps even more.
