AL-TABQA- The Office of Organization Affairs in al-Tabqa Civil Council is preparing to expand Al-Tuwaheina camp, coinciding with the approaching of the rainy season and the possibility of the influx of displaced people from Deir-ez-Zor province in east Syria, as well as the start of the new sesion.
As winter approaches, most displaced families are living in the open without shelter to keep them from winter. Others live in schools and public facilities, hiding themselves behind some cloth curtains, tin sheets or wood.
about the situation of the displaced and their future with the coming winter and the plans of the Office of Organization Affairs in al-Tabqa to improve the reality of the displaced, the co-chair of the Office of Organizations Affairs in the al – Tabqa Anfal Hamada, assured that some United Nation organizations are currently working to expand al-Tuwehina camp north-west of the city al-Tabqa where more than 900 displaced families are residing now”.
And most of the displaced have fled the conflict areas of the city of al-Raqqa and its countryside, northern and the northeastern countryside of Homs, and Deir-ez-Zor and Aleppo countrysides, the camp is expected to accommodate after the expansion of “between 1500 to 1700 families as it has been equipped tents with all the requirements of blankets and kitchen tools in addition to insuring fuel for heating in Winter if possible, according to Anfal Hamada.
With the continued military operations of the regime’s forces and its regional and international allies in Deir-ez-Zor, in addition to IS mercenaries’ practices, al-Tuwaheina camp administration is expecting displaced refugees to arrive from Deir -ez-Zor to the camp, despite the existence of Al-Sadd camp in the Arishah area in Al-Hasakah canton and Ain Issa camp in the same town.
These organizations, in cooperation with the Office of Organization Affairs, are working on the preparation of the camp for the winter through the distribution of “shelter improvement” assistance which includes several household items and winter blankets.
In the case that the camp is effectively expanded and a number of displaced people are transferred from the town of al-Tabqa to al-Tuwaheina camp, the Education Committee of al-Tabqa Civil Council will be able to open more schools to accommodate larger numbers. The number of ready-made schools in the city is only 5 other schools. Only the presence of displaced persons impedes the opening of other schools.
There is no timetable for these organizations to end al –Tuwaheina camp preparations, and the coming period will be a real test for these organizations to fulfill their promises.
